How we know what we say
Mint Garage HQ exists because most Hot Wheels “value guides” publish numbers without evidence. This page is the standard we hold ourselves to.
Source hierarchy
- Official: Mattel Creations listings, FAQs and sale terms. We use these for specs, retail prices, purchase limits, eligibility and sale windows.
- Sold evidence: completed sales on public marketplaces, recorded with date, price, condition and venue.
- Reference: the Hot Wheels Wiki, for toy numbers and release lists. It’s community-edited, so we cross-check where we can.
- Enthusiast news and creators: useful for early sightings. Always labelled, and sponsorships are noted when we see them.
Asking prices and value guides that don’t state a method are context, never evidence. When we quote one, we say so.
Value grades
Grades are computed from the comps logged for each car, as of the page’s research date. They’re never typed in by hand.
- Grade A · Strong
- Five or more sold comps in the 90 days before our research date.
- Grade B · Moderate
- Two or more sold comps in the 180 days before our research date.
- Grade C · Thin
- One sold comp, or asking prices only. Treat as a rough signal.
- Not graded
- No price evidence logged yet. We show no value rather than guess.
A range is the low and high of matching sold comps. We also show the median, because one outlier sale shouldn’t move the headline. All prices are USD on the US market, before shipping and tax unless we say otherwise.
A value on Mint Garage HQ is a summary of past sales. It is not an appraisal, an offer, a prediction or investment advice. Prices move.
Drop times
We store each drop time with its original UTC offset exactly as Mattel states it, then show it in Pacific, Eastern, UK and your local time. If Mattel hasn’t stated a time, we show the listing date only. When a time is inferred, for example from a listing’s publish timestamp, we label it as observed rather than confirmed.
Freshness
Every car, drop and guide shows when it was last researched or verified, and every availability status shows its check date. If our date looks old, trust the official listing over us.
What we won’t do
- Publish a value we can’t evidence, or present an asking price as a value.
- Scrape sites against their terms. We link to marketplace searches so you can check sales yourself.
- Reuse other people’s photos. Our paint chips show the listed colour and are clearly not product photos.
- Help with bots, multiple accounts or anything that gets around purchase limits.
- Take payment for coverage or grades.
Independence and money
Mint Garage HQ has no affiliate links and no sponsors today. If that changes, links will be labelled on the page where they appear, and this section will say so. Mint Garage HQ is an independent collector resource. It is not affiliated with, endorsed or sponsored by Mattel, Inc.
